Culver Military Academy Senior portrait tips are something I’m always asked about from parents and students! Here are my top ten Senior Portrait Tips from a Culver Preferred Photographer since 2012. If you are or are the parent to a Culver Military Academy student, these tips are for you!
Top Ten Culver Military Academy Senior Portrait Tips

- Pick Your Culver Senior Portrait Photographer Early
- There are several Culver Academies Preferred Photographers and each one of us does things a little bit differently and has a different style. The best sessions come from having an ongoing relationship with your photographer, so you are at ease in front of the camera. Your Culver Story begins in your very first days at Culver and we love telling your story through the years. Since we work with many families who have children who grow up through their Culver Summer Camp years having Woodcraft portraits done by Always Images, our space is limited each year to take on new clients. Many of our families choose to tell the Culver Military and Culver Girls Academy stories all throughout their years at Winter School.
- Don’t Wait to Reach Out
- Each year we have late requests for Senior Portraits or even graduation week pictures. We are limited in the number of clients we take each year to give the best service to our Culver Academies families. If you’d like Culver Military Academy Senior Portraits, reach out the Spring of Junior Year to be on the Always Images list. Our first priority is always to the families we have worked with in prior years.
- Do Portrait Sessions Your Junior Year
- One of our most important Culver Military Academy Senior Portrait tips is to do portrait sessions your Junior Year (or even before). This will help you to have the very best Senior Portraits. You’ll learn how we work, how to pose, explore some of the best spots on the Culver Academies campus for portraits and it also helps us to plan for your Senior Portraits.
- Bring A Friend
- When we ask our Seniors what they will miss most about Culver Academies when they leave, the answer is a resounding, “the people”. Plan to bring your people and include them in your senior portraits. They will bring out sparks of joy in your images and bring back memories for years to come!
- Include Your Family
- When your family is in town to visit, let’s plan to include them in some pictures. Fall Parents Weekend is the perfect time for a family portrait, especially when family comes into town early. Christmas Card pictures will be done and we’ll have plenty of time to design those cards too! The weather is beautiful and we can normally find a time that works for everyone. We also always include the option for Fall Ball & Final Ball family pictures for our clients.
- Fall Senior Portraits
- Everyone thinks they want the Fall leaves to change for their portraits. Honestly, if you want leaves, great!! However, the leaves don’t change completely until the very end of October normally. It’s a very busy time and the light can become much harsher the later you wait in October. There are always pretty Fall leaves to be found, but peak leaves are normally when it has become chilly and often rainy. Plan to do most of your Fall Culver Military Academy Senior Portraits earlier in the season. If you really want some in the peak leaves, all we need is about ten minutes to go to one of the best spots. Campus is absolutely beautiful in September and early October. Don’t wait. I promise, it’s not worth it!
- Spring Culver Senior Portraits
- Every year I have parents reach out in April and May to ask if I can schedule their child for a Culver Academies Spring Senior Portrait. The majority of the time, I am fully booked by then…so please don’t wait. If you are thinking of a Spring Culver Senior Portrait, reach out as early as possible. Since our Seniors do Fall Sessions and Spring sessions, our space at Always Images is very limited.
- Culver Senior Portraits Aren’t Just About Portraits
- We want to tell your Culver Story! Sports, parades, ceremonies, special interests and your friends. These are just a few pieces of your days at Culver Academies. When you look back on your portraits and the beautiful albums we create for you, we want your Culver Days to come flooding back!
- You Don’t Just Want Digitals
- We have strong opinions on digital files. Everyone THINKS they just want digitals. If you receive digitals as your Senior Portraits, they aren’t really a finished product. What will happen to them over time? How will you look at them? Who will keep track of the digital files? What happens when technology changes and the files are too small to use for anything? Printed images are the answer. They are meant to last. Don’t worry – we always offer a digital file option in addition to our printed work for you to share on social media. We create custom bespoke leather albums and wall art for every client we work with. You aren’t supposed to have to figure out what to do with your pictures, that’s our job!
- Let Always Images Help Make Your Senior Year Better
- We’ve lived in Culver for almost 20 years and having over 150+ family members in our extended family who have attended Culver Academies over more than three generations. We know a lot of little details you may miss about being a Senior. We are on your family’s team to make things easier! Bespoke Christmas cards and gifts, all things graduation – we have great recommendations we can make to assist you in planning a graduation party, creating yearbook ads and graduation announcements. We consider you like our family when you are a client and share details about all the things we can to make your Senior Year amazing! Let us help you!
